Effective Brainstorming: Teaching Ideation like a Boss!

Effective Brainstorming: Teaching Ideation like a Boss!

Ideation is the key to developing innovative solutions to problems. There are many ways to come up with ideas, but today's workforce requires people who can brainstorm effectively in collaborative teams. This workshop provides training in different methods of facilitating effective brainstorms, including the use of technology to share and record brainstorm results. Many of the methods can also be used as formative assessment tools for evaluating content knowledge and participation.

Makerspace Development: Teaching in the Space

Makerspace Development: Teaching in the Space

A makerspace is, at its heart, a studio. It is a place for students to create; a place in which people can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge. Teaching within a makerspace is a perfect opportunity to nurture and encourage student-driven learning, and guide students to develop mindsets necessary in being an active creator and maker. In this workshop, participants will look at a variety of activities and projects to help students develop their maker mindsets, as well as manage the space and materials.

From Standard to Inquiry Unit

From Standard to Inquiry Unit

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are written such that each performance expectation concisely describes how students are to demonstrate their learning. These statements contain lots of information regarding the skills and content knowledge students need in order to be successful in meeting each expectation. This workshop will provide teachers with useful strategies for deconstructing (unpacking) the performance expectations and using unpacked elements to create a sequence of lessons as part of a larger inquiry unit. Participants will engage in several hands-on activities, discussions, and collaboratively create a unit outline based on specific CCSS and/or NGSS performance expectations.
