6th-8th Grade Math Institute (2-day institute)

What do good problem solvers do? Join us for 2 days of enriching 6th - 8th grade hands-on mathematics ideas that emphasize developing good student problem solving skills addressed in each of the 8 Common Core Mathematics Practices (1. Solve Problems; 2. Reason Abstractly and Quantitatively; 3. Create Viable Arguments and Critique the Reasoning of Others; 4. Model with Mathematics; 5. Use Appropriate Tools Strategically; 6. Attend to Precision; 7. Look For and Make Use of Structure; and 8. Look For and Express Regularity in Repeated Reasoning). Learn how to integrate real world models for creative hands-on exploration, group work, and organizational learning techniques that make mathematics relevant and come alive! RAFT assumes that participants have prior knowledge of 6th - 8th grade mathematical content before taking this course.
Lunch will be provided.

World Culture with Tassels

Tassels are useful for many projects, for young and old alike. The student can make either simple or sophisticated tassels, pushing their own creativity. This class will include a basic discussion about working with color. Maps with specific cultural references noted. Third grade and up. Key chains and tassels will be finished with different color harmonies of your choice. So creative, fun, and satisfying.

Teambuilding for Kids

Teambuilding for Kids

Games can promote learning in the classroom, as well as cooperative learning on the playground. This collection of games and mixers is designed to connect students across diverse backgrounds, promote communication and enrich the classroom culture. Many of the concepts will also augment existing teaching techniques. Variations of these games are appropriate for students of all ages. The instructor will have his books and DVDs available for sale during the workshop.
